The church is now looked after by the Churches Conservation Trust. This group helps to save old churches that are no longer used for regular services. St Nicholas' Church became part of their care on April 1, 1989.

Discovering St Nicholas' Church

St Nicholas' Church is a fascinating place with a long history. It shows off a style of building called Norman architecture. This style was popular in England after the Normans arrived in 1066.

Key Features of the Church

The church has some cool features that have been added over time.

The Tower

The church tower was built in the 15th century. It has pointy decorations on top called pinnacles. Imagine tiny spires reaching up to the sky!

Inside the Church

Inside, you'll find a special bowl used for baptisms, called a font. This font is also from the Norman period, making it very old. There's also a stone pulpit from around 1480. A pulpit is a raised stand where a speaker gives a sermon.

You can also see a Royal Coat of Arms inside. This is a special symbol of the King or Queen. The one in St Nicholas' Church was made in 1842 by an artist named William Edkins.

Renovations Over Time

The church has been updated many times. In the 1820s, a family called the Pigotts did a lot of work to fix up and improve the whole church.

Modern Use of the Church

Even though it's an old building, St Nicholas' Church is still used today. It's often a place for local art events. Regular church services are usually held only twice a year. However, if someone wants to get married there, they can ask for special permission.
