St Paul's Church in Carlton-in-the-Willows is a beautiful old church in Carlton, Nottinghamshire, England. It is part of the Church of England. This church is so special that it is officially recognized as a Grade II listed building. This means it is an important historical building that needs to be protected.
A Look Back: The Church's Story
The idea for St Paul's Church came from a very important person. His name was Henry Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon. He was a nobleman who wanted this church built. Sadly, he passed away in 1890, just before the church was completely finished. To remember him, his wife had a special cross made. This cross still hangs inside the church today.
The church also has some amazing wooden carvings. These are oak stalls and desks. They were carved by a famous artist named Eric Gill. He created these beautiful pieces in 1903.
