The Church of St Peter is a very old and important church in Portishead, England. It was first built way back in 1320, on the same spot where an even older church once stood. Over the years, it was rebuilt and updated, especially in the 14th and 15th centuries. These changes gave it a special look called the Perpendicular Gothic style. In 1952, it was recognized as a Grade I listed building, which means it's a very important historic place.

About St Peter's Church
The church has seen many changes over the centuries. A small room called a vestry was added in 1828. More changes were made to the church building between 1978 and 1979. Around the year 2000, a new garden was created at the church, which is a nice place for people to visit.
A Look at the Church Building
The Church of St Peter is easy to spot in Portishead. It stands between Church Road North and Church Road South. The church has a tall tower that reaches about 28.6 meters (94 feet) high. This tower has strong supports called buttresses and a decorative top edge called a parapet. Its height and design make it a well-known landmark in the area.
The churchyard, which is the area around the church, is also a special place. It holds the graves of three sailors from the Royal Navy and one airman from the Royal Air Force. These brave individuals served during World War II.
Who Helps Lead the Church?
The Church of St Peter is part of a team ministry. This means several people work together to lead the church and its community. The team includes Reverend Rob Eastwood Dewing, who is the Team Rector. There is also Revd Tonya Nixon, the Team Pastor, Revd Mark Fuller, the Team Pilgrim, and Revd Lindsay Smith, who is an Assistant Curate.
St Peter's Links to Schools
The church has strong connections with local Christian primary schools. For example, it works closely with St Peter's C of E Primary School. These links help connect the church with younger members of the community.
