St Peter Parmentergate, Norwich is an old church building in Norwich, England. It is known as a Grade I listed building, which means it's a very important historical site. This church is no longer used for regular church services, which is why it's called a "redundant parish church."
History of St Peter Parmentergate
This church building is very old, dating back to the Middle Ages. It was rebuilt in the year 1486. For many years, it served as a place of worship.
In 1980, the church closed its doors for regular services. The people who used to worship there moved to another church nearby, called St Julian's Church.
After closing as a church, the building found new uses. In 2005, it became a center for martial arts training. Later, in 2019, it was used as a special arena for practicing medieval combat skills.
The Church Organ
St Peter Parmentergate once had a large pipe organ built by a company called Norman and Beard. This organ was a big part of the church's music. However, it was later moved from the church. Today, you can find this historic organ at Norwich School.
Current Use as a Skatepark
Today, this historic medieval church building has a very modern purpose! It is now used as an indoor skatepark. A charity called Community East runs the skatepark, providing a cool space for skaters.
In 2021, a well-known skate shop from Norwich, called Drug Store, also moved into the building. The skatepark officially opened its doors in December 2022, giving young people a unique place to skate and hang out.
