History of the Chapel
St Winifred's Church was built between 1913 and 1916. The plans for the church were made by an architect named Mr. McIntyre. These plans were later approved by Louis Ambler, with a few changes. The church was built for the 6th Duke of Portland. Its design was inspired by another church in Steetley, Derbyshire.

Burial Place for the Portland Family
St Winifred's Church has traditionally been the burial place for the Dukes of Portland and their families from Welbeck Abbey. Most of them are buried in the small churchyard around the church.
Notable Burials
Some of the important people buried here include:
- The 6th Duke of Portland (1857–1943)
- The 7th Duke of Portland (1893–1977)
- Ivy Cavendish-Bentinck, Duchess of Portland (1887–1982), whose maiden name was Gordon-Lennox
- The 9th Duke of Portland (1897–1990). When he passed away, the title of Duke ended.
Most of the earlier Dukes of Portland were buried in London. For example, the 1st and 2nd Dukes are buried in Westminster Abbey. The 3rd Duke is in St Marylebone Parish Church. The 5th Duke is buried in Kensal Green Cemetery. The 4th Duke was buried in an old family vault that had not been opened for 138 years.

Besides the graves of the Dukes of Portland, St Winifred's Church also has memorials for other people. These are like special plaques or sculptures that remember someone.

- A memorial for Lady Ottoline Morrell from 1939. It was created by Eric Gill and is on the north aisle wall.
- A memorial for Major Lord William Augustus Cavendish Bentinck, located on the south chancel wall.
The Church Organ
