Stacie Anaka is a freestyle wrestler from Canada. She was born in Coquitlam, British Columbia. Stacie wrestles in the 67 kilogram weight class. She also helps coach women's wrestling at Simon Fraser University. In 2007, she won the Tom Longboat Award. This award honors Indigenous athletes who do great things in sports.
Stacie's Early Life and School
Stacie Anaka started wrestling in high school. She went to Reynolds Secondary School.
Later, Stacie got a special wrestling scholarship. It was worth $20,000 to attend Simon Fraser University. She studied health sciences there. While in university, Stacie became a national wrestling champion. She won this title in 2007, 2008, and 2010.
Stacie's Wrestling Career
In July 2013, Stacie competed in the Summer Universiade Games. These games are like a mini-Olympics for university students. She won a bronze medal in her event. Stacie beat Natalya Palamarchuk from Azerbaijan.
A few months later, Stacie wrestled in the 2013 FILA World Wrestling Championships. She had some big wins there. Stacie beat Nasanburmaa Ochirbat from Mongolia. She also won against Gozal Zutova from Azerbaijan. Then, she defeated Zhangting Zhou from China. In the final match for the gold medal, she lost to Alina Stadnik-Makhynia from Ukraine. Stacie proudly brought home a silver medal for Canada!
Awards and Recognition
Stacie Anaka has received many awards. In 2005, she was honored as a top student at Simon Fraser University.
In 2007, she won a special award from the Pacific National Exhibition. This award was for her sports achievements. It also recognized her leadership in the First Nations community. Stacie teaches young students about wrestling. She also encourages them to be active and play sports.
In 2014, Stacie won the Female Senior Athlete of the Year award. This was at the Sport B.C. Athlete of the Year Banquet. It took place in Vancouver.
In 2017, her old high school, Reynolds Secondary School, celebrated 50 years. They added Stacie to their athletic hall of fame. This honored her as a great former student athlete.
