Stacy Lattisaw's Music Journey
Stacy Lattisaw started her music career at a young age. When she was just 11, a songwriter named Frederick Knight wanted to sign her. He even wrote a song called "Ring My Bell" for her. It was meant to be a fun song about kids talking on the phone. However, Stacy signed with a different record company. So, another singer, Anita Ward, ended up singing "Ring My Bell," and it became a huge hit for her.
Early Albums and Success
Stacy recorded her first album when she was 12 years old in 1979. This was with Cotillion Records. She worked with producer Van McCoy. Her career really took off when she started working with Narada Michael Walden. He was a drummer who was just beginning his career as a producer.
Under Walden's guidance, Stacy released many hit R&B albums between 1981 and 1986. She even got to open for the Jacksons on their "Triumph Tour" in 1981. That must have been an amazing experience!
Big Hits and Later Career
During the 1980s and early 1990s, Stacy Lattisaw had several popular R&B songs in the U.S. Her song "Jump to the Beat" was a top 3 hit in the UK in 1980. She also had three songs that did well on the main U.S. chart: "Let Me Be Your Angel," "Love on a Two-Way Street," and "Miracles."
In 1986, Stacy signed with Motown, a very famous record label. She had her only number one R&B hit in 1989. This was a duet with Johnny Gill called "Where Do We Go from Here."
Stacy decided to step away from pop music in 1992. She wanted to focus on being a mother and raising her family. Since then, she has performed gospel music. Her last appearance in pop music was singing background vocals for Tanya Blount in 1994. In 2010, her music story was shared on the TV show Unsung.
