How Stairtown Began
Stairtown started in the 1920s. This was right after oil was found nearby in the Luling oilfield. The community got its name from Oscar F. Stair, who owned land in the area.

There were some oil derricks and homes in Stairtown. However, not many workers were needed there. This was because the larger town of Luling was very close by. Oscar F. Stair's grandson, Fred, shared that his grandfather was born in 1867. His family still owns most of the land in Stairtown today. This land is mostly covered with Mesquite trees.
