Stanfield is a small, unincorporated community in Clay County, Texas, United States. An unincorporated community is a place with a shared identity but no official local government, unlike a city or town. According to the Handbook of Texas, only about 15 people lived there in 2000. It is located near the larger Wichita Falls metropolitan area.
History of Stanfield
The first person to settle in the Stanfield area was Joe Campbell in 1883. The community got its name from the Stanfield Brothers Ranch. This ranch later bought a very large piece of land, about 22,000 acres, that included the settlement.
Stanfield had its own post office for a short time, from 1903 until 1905. During the 1940s and 1950s, the community had two shops and a population of 50 people. By the mid-1960s, the population dropped to 30 residents, and there were no longer any businesses. From then until 1990, the population was recorded as 25. In 2000, it was 15 people.
Where is Stanfield?
Stanfield is located on Farm to Market Road 2332. This road is a type of state highway that connects rural areas to market towns. It is about 15 miles northeast of Henrietta in the northeastern part of Clay County. Stanfield is also just one mile south of the Oklahoma border.
