Stanford is a town in Dutchess County, New York, United States. It is located in the north-central part of the county. In 2020, about 3,682 people lived in Stanford. This was a slight decrease from the 3,823 people counted in 2010.

History of Stanford
Stanford was first settled around 1750. The land was part of a large area called the Great Nine Partners Patent. This patent was granted in 1697. The town of Stanford was officially formed in 1793. It was created from a part of the nearby town of Washington.
Geography of Stanford
Stanford is located in the beautiful landscape of New York State. The United States Census Bureau reports that the town covers about 130.2 square kilometers (50.29 square miles). Most of this area, about 128.6 square kilometers (49.64 square miles), is land. The remaining 1.7 square kilometers (0.65 square miles) is water, making up about 1.29% of the total area.
Population and People
In 2000, Stanford had 3,544 people living in 1,398 households. About 973 of these were families. The population density was about 70.9 people per square mile. There were 1,712 housing units in the town.
Many types of households live in Stanford. About 31.3% of households had children under 18 living with them. Most households, 59.6%, were married couples. About 24.9% of all households were individuals living alone.
The people in Stanford are of different ages. About 23.4% of the population was under 18 years old. About 12.3% were 65 years or older. The average age in the town was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were about 102.7 males.
