About Stanground
Stanground is located south of the River Nene. It sits on higher ground. From here, you can look out over the flat lands called The Fens. In the past, Stanground was part of different areas. These included the Isle of Ely and Huntingdonshire. Today, it is part of the city of Peterborough.
The main church in Stanground is Saint John the Baptist. It is part of the Diocese of Ely. However, the Bishop of Peterborough helps to look after it. In the churchyard, there is a very old stone cross. It is called the Lampass Cross and was made in the 12th century. This cross is a special scheduled monument. The church and area are mentioned in ghost stories. These stories were written by E. G. Swain. He was the vicar there from 1905 to 1916. Stanground cemetery opened in 1890. It is next to the fire station.
