Stanton is a small, unincorporated community located in the town of Stanton, within St. Croix County, Wisconsin, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called a "town," which is similar to a township in other states.
History
The community of Stanton has an interesting past. It once had its own post office, which was open for many years, from 1880 until 1913. This means people living there could send and receive mail right in their own community.
The community was named after an important historical figure: Edwin M. Stanton. He was the 27th United States Secretary of War. This was a very important job in the government, especially during the time of the American Civil War. He helped manage the country's military and defense.
