Early Life and Moving Around
Nathan was born in South London, England. When he was two years old, he moved to Jamaica with his mother, Lorna Gee, who is a reggae singer. His mother later moved to the United States to focus on her music career, while Nathan stayed in Jamaica with his grandmother. At the age of five, he joined his mother in New York City, where they lived until Nathan was 11 years old.
Nathan's Music Career
First Album: Masterpiece
In 2006, Nathan released his first song, "Come into My Room". It was a success, reaching number 37 on the UK Singles Chart. This was his only song released with the record label V2 Records.
His second song, "Round and Round", came out in January 2007. This song marked a change to a new record label, Mona Records/Vibes Corner Music. Nathan's first album, called Masterpiece, was released on October 9, 2006. The third song from the album was "Cold as Ice". When Masterpiece was re-released in 2007, it reached number 122 on the UK Albums Chart. The fourth song from the album, "Do Without My Love", became his second biggest hit from Masterpiece, reaching number 44 on the UK Singles Chart.
In January 2008, Nathan appeared on the TV show Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack. He finished in sixth place on the show.
New Name and Second Album: 3D
After promoting Masterpiece until 2008, Nathan started working on his second album. This album, called 3D – Determination, Dedication, Desire, was released in November 2011. The first song from this album was "Caught Me Slippin", which featured the rapper Flo Rida. It was released in July 2010.
In 2011, Nathan started using the name Starboy Nathan instead of just Nathan. He explained that he wanted a name that was more fun and easier to find online. He said his mum used to say "Starboy time" when he was little, and the new name helps people find his music more easily when they search for him.
After performing as a supporting act for the JLS and Ndubz tours, Starboy Nathan announced that "Diamonds" would be the second song from his 3D album. "Diamonds" was released in April 2011 and became a big hit, reaching number 23 on the UK charts. Starboy Nathan also supported The Wanted on their UK tour. His album 3D – Dedication, Determination, Desire was fully released in May 2012.
In 2012, Starboy Nathan tried out for The X Factor. He did well in the auditions and made it to the "Judges' Houses" round in Dubai. However, the judge Nicole Scherzinger did not choose him to be one of her final three male singers for the live shows.
