Starkville is a small community called a hamlet in New York. It is located in the eastern part of the town of Stark. You can find it in southern Herkimer County, west of Fort Plain. The main road passing through Starkville is NY 80.

Discover Starkville
Starkville was first settled in the late 1700s. It grew into a busy little place over time.
A Look Back in Time
Long ago, Starkville was a lively center. It had many important buildings and businesses.
- A post office helped people send and receive mail.
- Three churches served the community: Lutheran, Methodist, and Baptist.
- Two hotels offered places for travelers to stay.
- There was a general store where people could buy supplies.
- Several mills helped process goods.
- A cheese factory made delicious cheese.
- Many other shops and about 40 homes filled the hamlet.
Starkville Today
By 2014, many of the original buildings were gone. However, some historical structures still stand. You can see an old carriage house factory. Two churches are also still there on Route 80. One of these old churches is now a private art studio.
In 1905, about 150 people lived in Starkville. It was a small but close-knit community.
