Starrsville is a small, historic area located in Newton County, Georgia, in the United States. It's about 5.4 miles (8.7 km) southeast of Covington. Starrsville is an "unincorporated community." This means it is not a separate city with its own government. Instead, it is part of the larger county area.

Discovering Starrsville's Past
Starrsville has a long and interesting history. It was first settled by the Starr and Epps families in 1821. People started talking about Starrsville as early as the 1820s. It was known for having "good schools" even back then. The community even got its own post office in 1836.
Famous People and Education
Many important people have connections to Starrsville. Young John Allen, who became a famous Methodist missionary, went to high school here. Another well-known person, Warren Akin Candler, described Allen's journey to Christianity. Candler was part of the family that founded Coca-Cola. He wrote about Allen's experience at Looney's school in Starrsville in September 1853.
The Arrival of the Railway
In 1890, a big change came to Starrsville. The Central of Georgia Railway built tracks through the area. This made it easier to travel and transport goods. Because of the railway, this part of the community became known as "New Starrsville."
Starrsville in the Early 1900s
By 1900, Starrsville was a busy place. It had a population of 57 people. The community had a "money order post office," which meant people could send money safely. There were also several good stores and an express office. Starrsville was even shipping goods out to other places. In 1909, the area was recognized for its brick plant. This shows that it was an important center for making building materials.
Starrsville Today
The post office in Starrsville closed in 1976. Today, Starrsville is seeing new growth. It is part of the "exurban development" around Covington. This means that more homes and businesses are being built in the area. Starrsville is now part of the larger Metro Atlanta region.
The community is home to the Starrsville Historic District. This district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. This means its historic buildings are protected. Besides the buildings in the historic district, you can also find the Starrsville Plantation nearby. It now hosts special events. There are also two old cemeteries in the area, the Starrsville Cemetery and the Epps Cemetery.
