Starvation Heights is located in the southern part of Oregon. It is about 4 miles (6.4 km) north of a community called Rogue River. It is also about 9 miles (14.5 km) east-northeast of Grants Pass. You can find it along East Evans Creek Road. This road is near major highways like Interstate 5 and Oregon Route 99.

The Story Behind the Name
The name "Starvation Heights" was given to this area before the year 1883. It has an interesting story behind it. The land here was known for being very poor for farming. The soil was a mix that was almost like granite. This type of soil could only support tough, scrubby plants. It was not good for growing crops.
Farmers' Struggles
Nearby, there was another area that was a bit lower in height. But that land had very rich soil. Farmers who tried to grow food in Starvation Heights often struggled. If their crops failed, they would have to leave the area. People would say these farmers were "starved out" because the land could not provide enough food. This is how the community got its unusual name.
