What is the State Information Service?

The State Information Service, or SIS, is a special agency in Egypt. Its main job is to handle public relations for the Egyptian government. This means it helps explain what the government is doing. It also helps foreign journalists and media teams who come to Egypt to report news.

How the SIS Started

The SIS was created a long time ago, in 1954. It was started by a group of leaders called the Revolutionary Command Council. This group took over leadership in Egypt at that time. They ended the old system where a king ruled the country. Salah Salem was a member of this group. He became the very first leader, or Chairman, of the SIS.

Who Leads the SIS Now?

Today, the Chairman of the SIS is Diaa Rashwan. He is a journalist and also involved in politics. The President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, chose him for this job in June 2017. One of the past Chairmen was Safwat El-Sherif. He was an important person in the government of former president Hosni Mubarak.
