News channels around the world started talking about it. The artist who made the statue offered to fix it. However, the town decided to find a different artist instead.
The Second Statue: "Lovely Lucy"
On August 1, 2016, the town announced that a new statue of Lucille Ball would replace the first one. Carolyn Palmer was chosen to create it. She was picked from more than 65 artists from all over the country.
Carolyn Palmer said she wanted to show Lucy's fun and lively side. She also wanted to show her as a glamorous Hollywood star. She hoped that all of Lucy's fans would like the new statue. She also hoped Lucille Ball herself would have enjoyed it.
The new statue was shown to the public on August 6, 2016. This day would have been Lucille Ball's 105th birthday.
