Stavetown is a small, unincorporated community located in Brookville Township, Franklin County, Indiana. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government. Instead, it's usually managed by the county or township it's in.
History of Stavetown
Stavetown got its name from a special factory that used to be there. This factory made staves. A stave is a curved piece of wood, like the ones used to make barrels or buckets.
The Great Flood of 1913
The stave factory in Stavetown was destroyed during a very big event called the Great Flood of 1913. This flood was one of the worst natural disasters in Indiana's history. After the factory was ruined, it was never rebuilt.
