Early Life and Training
Stefano Palatchi was born in Barcelona, a big city in Spain.
He started learning to sing when he was 15 years old. His first teacher was Maya Maiska. Later, he studied with other famous teachers like Gino Bechi and Ettore Campogalliani. He also went to study in Florence, Italy, and New York, USA, to improve his skills.
One day, while he was taking a singing class, the artistic director of the Liceu opera house, Luis Andreu Marfà, heard him sing. He liked Stefano's voice and offered him a small part in an opera called Lohengrin by Wagner. That was Stefano's very first time singing in an opera!
His Singing Career
Stefano Palatchi first performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in 1986. This is a very important opera house. He also sang there again in 1999 when the Liceu reopened after a big fire had damaged it five years earlier.
He has performed in hundreds of shows and more than thirty different operas. He is especially known for singing in operas by famous composers like Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini. Some of the operas he has sung in include Rigoletto, Aida, Turandot, and La bohème.
Stefano has also sung in new operas for the very first time. These are called "world premieres." For example, he sang in Cristóbal Colón and Gaudí. In 2009, he was part of the first Spanish performance of the opera Lazaro.
He has performed in many famous theaters and festivals outside of Spain. In 1994, he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, which is one of the most famous opera houses in the world. There, he played the role of Colline in La bohème.
