Stella Damasus (born April 24, 1978) is a talented Nigerian actress and singer. She is well-known for her many roles in Nigerian films. Stella has received several awards for her acting. For example, she won the Best Actress award at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2007. She also won Best Actress for the movie Two Brides and a Baby at the Golden Icons Academy Awards in Houston, Texas, in 2012.
Early Life and Education
Stella Damasus was born in Benin City, Edo State, in the southern part of Nigeria. She grew up there with her four sisters. Stella completed most of her early schooling in Benin City. Later, she studied Theatre Arts at the University of Lagos in Nigeria.
Personal Journey
Stella Damasus first married Jaiye Aboderin in 1999. They had two daughters together. Sadly, Jaiye passed away in 2004. Stella later married Emeka Nzeribe in 2007, but their marriage ended after seven months. In 2014, she married film director Daniel Ademinokan. Their marriage ended in 2020.
Acting and Singing Career
Stella Damasus began her career as a singer in Lagos. She worked as a studio singer at Klink Studios. There, she developed her singing skills. She also sang for many popular radio and TV jingles in Nigeria.
Stella's first appearance in a Nigerian film was in Abused in 1992. However, she became very famous after her second movie, Breaking Point. This film was produced by Emem Isong and directed by Francis Agu. Stella has been nominated for the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role multiple times. These nominations were for her roles in movies like Behind Closed Doors (2006), Widow (2008), and State of the Heart (2009).
She has starred in over 70 movies throughout her career. Besides acting, Stella Damasus is also a co-founder of I2radio. She hosts two podcast shows: Undiluted with Stella Damasus and When Women Praise.
