About Stella Mozgawa
Her Early Life and Family
Stella Mozgawa grew up in Sydney, Australia. Her parents moved there from Poland and were both musicians. They performed together as a musical duo.
When Stella was 13, she started playing the drums. She was inspired by Zac Hanson, the drummer from the pop band Hanson. She once said that for many people older than her, Tommy Lee was their drumming hero, but for her, it was Zac Hanson. When she was 14, Stella was so determined to play that she even pretended to be older to perform in music venues in Sydney!
Starting Her Music Career
Stella began playing in bands in Sydney around the year 2000. In 2006, she formed a band called Mink in New York City. They released an album in 2007, but the band later broke up.
Stella became friends with Flea, the bass guitarist from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Flea suggested she move to Los Angeles. He was a big help in her meeting the members of Warpaint. Stella even lived at Flea's house for a while. She said he was the first person to mention Warpaint to her and helped her connect with them.
Joining the Band Warpaint
In late 2009, Stella met Theresa Wayman, a singer and guitarist from Warpaint, in Los Angeles. Soon after, Stella was asked to join the band, replacing their previous drummer.
Stella quickly became a key part of Warpaint. She played drums on their first album, The Fool, which came out in 2010. She also helped write songs for their second album, Warpaint, released in 2014. Their third album, Heads Up, followed in 2016.
