Discover the History of Stensele
Stensele started as a village connected to a church area, called a parish. It became part of a larger rural area in 1862. This was due to a big change in how towns were governed in Sweden.
Later, on April 30, 1937, Stensele became its own "municipal community." This meant it had its own local government. However, this special status ended in 1964.
Since 1971, Stensele has been part of the Storuman Municipality. This means it is now governed by the same local council as other towns in that area.
