Storuman Municipality is a large area in northern Sweden. It's like a local government district. The main town, where the local government offices are, is called Storuman. This area is known for its beautiful nature and for being home to some famous skiers!

History of Storuman Municipality
The area started as a parish called Stensele in 1822. In 1863, Stensele and another parish, Tärna, joined to form a municipality.
Later, in 1903, Tärna became its own separate municipality. But in 1971, Stensele and Tärnaby municipalities came back together. They formed the Storuman Municipality, taking its name from the largest town.
Famous Skiers from Storuman
The small village of Tärnaby in Storuman Municipality is famous for its amazing alpine skiers. Many international champions grew up here.
Some of these well-known skiers include Ingemar Stenmark, Stig Strand, and Anja Pärson. They have all achieved great success in the sport.
Geography and Size of Storuman
Storuman Municipality is very large, covering about 8,286 square kilometers. This makes it the ninth largest municipality in all of Sweden.
Even though it's huge, not many people live here. There's less than one person per square kilometer, which means it's a very quiet and natural place.

Getting Around Storuman
Storuman Municipality has important roads that help people travel. Two major European roads, E12 and E45, meet in the town of Storuman.
An international tourist route called the Blue Highway also passes through Storuman. This route connects Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia.
Railways and Airports
There are two railway lines in Storuman. The Inlandsbanan is used for tourist trains during the summer. Both lines are also used for carrying goods by freight trains.
If you need to fly, there are two airports nearby. Vilhelmina Airport is closest for the eastern part of Storuman Municipality. For the western part, Hemavan Airport is very close to the village of Hemavan.
