From 1990 to 1992, he was a professor at Dallas Baptist University. He also spent ten years working in human resources for a company called Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). This center helps families in the "inner-city" community. It offers things like a clothing store, provides school supplies for children, and offers family counseling.

On March 2, 2010, Stephen Broden won the first round of the Republican primary election for the U.S. House in Texas's 30th congressional district. He received 46.6% of the votes in a three-person race. On April 13, 2010, he won the runoff election with 67.5% of the votes. This made him the Republican candidate for the general election in November.

During October 2010, Broden was accused of making controversial statements about the federal government during a TV interview. In the general election, he was defeated by the Democratic candidate, Eddie Bernice Johnson. Johnson won by a large margin of over 54%.

Marlise Muñoz Case

Stephen Broden was involved in the public discussion surrounding the case of Marlise Muñoz. She was a pregnant woman who became brain dead. Broden supported keeping her body on artificial life support. He led a vigil outside the Texas hospital where she was.

Marlise Muñoz's husband found her unconscious in November. She was 14 weeks pregnant and later died from brain death. Before her death, she had said she did not want to be kept alive artificially if she became brain dead. The unborn child had suffered from a lack of oxygen and had medical complications.

The cost for an intensive care unit (ICU) bed in a U.S. hospital can be very high, sometimes $2,000 to $3,000 per day. An attorney who helped write the Texas state law being used in this case said there was a problem applying the law to someone who was no longer alive. Marlise's husband, Erick, with his family's support, asked a court to order the termination of life support. The court agreed, and life support was ended.

2024 Presidential Election
