Stephen Edward Broden (born April 11, 1952) is an American businessman, pastor, and political activist. He has also worked as a broadcaster and was a professor. In 2010, he was a candidate for the Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives for Texas. He ran for the 30th congressional district but was defeated by Democratic candidate Eddie Bernice Johnson. In 2024, he was the candidate for vice president for the Constitution Party.

Education and Early Career

Stephen Broden studied at the University of Michigan. He earned two degrees there: a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in communication. Later, he continued his studies at the Dallas Theological Seminary. There, he received another Master of Arts degree, this time in Bible studies.

From 1990 to 1992, he taught as a professor at Dallas Baptist University. Before that, he worked for 10 years in the business world at Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). He also owned several car wash businesses. Stephen Broden has experience in broadcasting too. He worked as a newscaster, disc jockey, and radio host. Today, he co-hosts a radio show called Life and Liberty on KSKY, 660 AM. He also shares short "thought of the day" messages on the station.

Community and Political Work

In 1987, Stephen Broden started the Fair Park Bible Fellowship Church. He became its main pastor. He also led the Fair Park Friendship Center as its executive director. This center helps families in the community. It offers things like a clothing store and gives school supplies to children. The center also provides family support.

Stephen Broden is a voice for a movement in Dallas that supports life. He helps inform African-American pastors about important cultural issues. He was also connected with the Tea Party movement, a political group.

2010 U.S. House Election

On March 2, 2010, Stephen Broden won the most votes in the Republican primary election. This was for the U.S. House seat in Texas's 30th congressional district. He received 46.6% of the votes in a three-person race. On April 13, 2010, he won the Republican Primary runoff election with 67.5% of the votes. This made him the Republican candidate for the general election in November.

During the election, Stephen Broden shared his strong opinions about the government. He said the federal government was "tyrannical." He suggested that if there wasn't a change in leadership after the November elections, other actions might be considered.

In the end, Eddie Bernice Johnson defeated Stephen Broden. She won by a large margin of over 54%. Johnson had the biggest win of any Democrat running for the U.S. House in Texas that year.
