History of Stepney and Poplar
This area was created as a special voting district for the general election in February 1974. It mostly took the place of an older area called Stepney.
Stepney and Poplar stopped being a separate voting area in 1983. After that, parts of it became new areas like Bethnal Green and Stepney.
This voting area also shared its borders with a similar area for local elections. This was for choosing councillors for the Greater London Council in 1973, 1977, and 1981.
What Were the Boundaries?
The boundaries of a voting area show exactly where its borders are. For Stepney and Poplar, the area included several parts of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. These parts were called wards.
