The Sterne–Hoya House Museum and Library is a historic building in Nacogdoches, Texas. It is located at 211 S. Lanana Street. This special place is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. Many important historical figures visited this house. For example, Davy Crockett was a guest here. Also, Sam Houston was baptized into the Catholic faith inside this very house.

History of the Sterne–Hoya House
Building the House (1830)
Adolphus Sterne built this house in 1830. He was an immigrant from Cologne, Germany. Sterne moved to Nacogdoches in 1826. He became good friends with Sam Houston while traveling through Tennessee.
Sterne's Role in Texas History
Adolphus Sterne played a big part in Texas history. He helped the Texas Revolution by providing money and weapons. After Texas became a state, Sterne served in the state government. He worked in both the house and senate.
Famous Visitors
The Sterne–Hoya House hosted some very famous people.
- Davy Crockett stayed in the house for two weeks in 1835. He was a well-known frontiersman and politician.
- Sam Houston was baptized in the house's parlor. This was important because it helped him meet the rules to live and own land in Texas at the time.
The House's Design
The house is a one-and-a-half-story building. It is made of wood and sits on a brick foundation. A Victorian style porch is at the entrance. Behind the main house, there were once servants' quarters. Adolphus Sterne also built other buildings on the property. These included a stable, smokehouse, hen house, and corn crib. These other buildings are no longer there today.
The Hoya Family's Time in the House
The Hoya family bought the house in 1866. Charles Hoya was a county surveyor in Nacogdoches. He lived in the house with his wife, Frances, and his father, Joseph T. Von der Hoya. The Hoya family lived in the house for many years.

Becoming a Museum
The house became a museum to share its history with others. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. In 1977, it was named a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The museum and library now display many old items. These items were given by the Hoya family and others. They help tell the story of the area.
