Steve Beaton (born 5 April 1964) is a former professional darts player from England. He is known by his nickname, "the Bronzed Adonis". Steve used to play in major darts tournaments like the British Darts Organisation (BDO) and the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).

He won the BDO World Championship in 1996. He was also ranked the world's number one BDO player in 1993 and 1994. Before joining the PDC in 2001, Steve won the World Masters in 1993 and the Dutch Open twice. In the PDC, he reached the final of the 2009 European Championship. He also won three titles on the PDC Pro Tour, including the 2013 German Darts Masters. Steve Beaton retired from professional darts at the end of 2024. He recently reached the semi-finals of the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Steve Beaton was born in Coventry, Warwickshire, England. He started playing darts professionally in 1991.

BDO Darts Career Highlights

Steve Beaton first played in the World Championship in 1992. In 1993, he surprised many by beating top players like Dennis Priestley and Bob Anderson. He reached the semi-finals that year. Later in 1993, he became a full-time professional player. He then won the famous Winmau World Masters tournament.

After some tough first-round losses in 1994 and 1995, Steve finally won the BDO World Championship in 1996. He beat many strong players, including John Part and Andy Fordham, before winning against Richie Burnett in the final.

In 1997, Steve almost made it to the final again. He lost a very close semi-final match to Marshall James. Steve also won many other tournaments during his BDO career, such as the Dutch, Danish, and Belgian Opens. He continued to play in BDO events until 2001. After that, he decided to switch to the PDC.

PDC Darts Journey

Steve Beaton joined the PDC in 2001. He never reached the quarter-finals of the PDC World Championship. His best results were reaching the last 16 three times. Even though his ranking sometimes dropped, he usually stayed in the top 32 players.

In 2009, Steve's form improved a lot. He won his first PDC title in almost nine years at a Players Championship event. He also finished second in the European Championship, losing to the legendary Phil Taylor.

A big moment for Steve was at the 2010 Grand Slam of Darts. He beat the three-time champion Phil Taylor in the quarter-finals. This was a huge upset! He then reached the semi-finals of that tournament. Steve continued to play consistently, reaching the quarter-finals of the World Matchplay in 2016. He also won another Players Championship event in 2017.

Retirement from Professional Darts

In December 2023, Steve Beaton announced that 2024 would be his last year playing professional darts. He played in his final PDC World Championship in 2024. He won his first game but lost in the second round.

At his last UK Open event in 2024, he reached the third round. For his final Pro Tour appearance, other darts players dressed up like Steve from the 1990s to celebrate his career. He did not qualify for the 2025 PDC World Championship, marking the end of his professional world championship appearances.

Seniors Darts Career

After retiring from professional darts, Steve Beaton was invited to play in the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship. He performed very well, making it all the way to the semi-finals. He lost to Ross Montgomery, who went on to win the tournament.

Steve Beaton's Nicknames

Steve Beaton is known as The Bronzed Adonis. This nickname comes from his tanned look, which he keeps all year round. He was once nicknamed Magnum P.I. because some people thought he looked like the actor Tom Selleck.
