Steve Guerdat (born 10 June 1982) is a famous Swiss horse rider. He competes in the exciting sport of show jumping. This is where horses and riders jump over obstacles.

Steve Guerdat is an Olympic champion! He won the gold medal in individual jumping at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in team jumping.

He has been ranked among the top show jumpers in the world many times. In 2019, he was the number one rider for the entire year. Steve is also a three-time World Cup champion, winning in 2015, 2016, and 2019.

Steve Guerdat's Riding Journey

Steve Guerdat started riding horses when he was just seven years old. His father, Philippe Guerdat, who was also an Olympic show jumper, trained him. Steve also learned from other great riders like Beat Mändli.

Early Competitions

From 1997 to 2002, Steve competed in many junior and young rider European championships. He won two bronze medals with his team during these early years. In 2003, he moved to the Netherlands to work with Jan Tops. He was chosen to compete at the 2004 Summer Olympics with his horse, "Olympic."

Olympic Success

In 2008, Steve competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics with his mare, Jalisca Solier. They won a bronze medal in team jumping. This was a big achievement for him and his team.

In 2012, Steve reached the top of the world rankings for the first time. That same year, he went to his third Olympic Games in London. He rode a French horse named Nino de Buissonnets. Steve was the only rider to jump perfectly in both final rounds. This amazing performance won him the individual jumping gold medal! He was the first Swiss rider to win this gold medal since 1924.

World Cup Victories

Steve Guerdat has also had great success in the FEI World Cup Jumping competitions. He won back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016. His 2016 win was in Göteborg, Sweden. He then won his third World Cup title in 2019.

Steve Guerdat's Life Outside Riding

Steve Guerdat is the youngest son of Olympic show jumper Philippe Guerdat. He lived in Herrliberg, Switzerland, for many years. Since 2017, he has lived in his own stables near Zürich in Elgg. These stables used to belong to another famous Swiss rider, Paul Weier.

In 2021, Steve married French equestrian Fanny Skalli. They welcomed their daughter, Ella, on 4 April 2021.
