Stephen Douglas Hogan (born May 31, 1948 – died May 13, 2018) was an American politician. He was the Mayor of Aurora, Colorado, from November 2011 until he passed away in May 2018. Hogan was a member of the Republican Party. Before becoming mayor, he was part of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1975 to 1977.

Early Life and Education
Steve Hogan was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 31, 1948. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Denver in 1970. After that, he studied law at the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1970 and 1971.
Hogan was skilled in managing transportation projects. He served as the executive director of the E-470 Public Highway Authority from 1991 to 1998. Later, he led the Northwest Parkway Authority until 2008.
Political Career and Public Service
In 1974, Steve Hogan was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives. He represented the 40th district, which included much of Aurora in Arapahoe County. At that time, he was a member of the Democratic Party.
In 1979, Hogan ran for the Aurora City Council and won. He served six terms on the council at different times: 1979–1983, 1985–1997, and 2001–2009.
Hogan also ran for the U.S. House of Representatives twice. In 1982, he was the Democratic candidate for the 6th district. He ran against Jack Swigert, a famous astronaut from Apollo 13. Hogan lost that election. He ran again in a special election in 1983, but lost once more.
Later, Steve Hogan became a Republican. In 2011, he ran for Mayor of Aurora for the second time, having tried once before in 1987. He was known for being good at managing money. The Denver Post newspaper described him as someone who could solve problems and manage well. He won the election in November with 37% of the votes.
His time as mayor gained international attention during the tragic 2012 Aurora, Colorado shooting.
Awards and Special Recognition
Steve Hogan received several awards for his work. These include the Martin Luther King Jr. Award from the City of Aurora. He also received the Outstanding Legislator award from the Colorado Chapter of Disabled American Veterans. The Aurora Chamber of Commerce gave him the Community Leadership Award. He also earned the Circle of Life Award from the Northern Aurora Business Association.
To honor him, an extension of East 6th Avenue was named “Stephen D. Hogan Parkway.” This new road opened on September 26, 2019.
Personal Life and Passing
Steve Hogan was involved in his community. He served on the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and the Aurora Economic Development Council. He lived in the High Point neighborhood with his wife, Becky.
Steve Hogan passed away from cancer on May 13, 2018.
