Steven William Prestwich (born March 5, 1954 – died January 16, 2011) was a talented musician. He was born in England but became famous in Australia. Steve was best known as the drummer for two popular Australian rock bands: the Little River Band and Cold Chisel. He also wrote or helped write many well-known songs.
Steve Prestwich: A Rock Music Legend
From Liverpool to Australian Rock
Steve Prestwich was born in Liverpool, England. In 1971, when he was 17, his family moved to Adelaide, Australia. There, he met Jimmy Barnes and they formed a band called "Orange." This band later changed its name to Cold Chisel.
Cold Chisel became one of Australia's most loved rock bands. Steve was the drummer and also a songwriter for the group. He wrote or helped write several of their biggest hits. These songs include "Forever Now," "When The War Is Over," and "Flame Trees."
Later Career and Solo Music
Cold Chisel broke up in 1983. After that, Steve Prestwich joined another famous Australian band, the Little River Band. He recorded two albums with them. The Little River Band even recorded his song "When The War Is Over" with singer John Farnham.
Steve played with Cold Chisel again when they reunited for tours in 1998 and 2003. The band had plans to record a new album in 2011. Besides his band work, Steve also released two solo albums. These were Since You've Been Gone in 2000 and Every Highway in 2009.
Steve Prestwich passed away in 2011 after having surgery for a brain tumor.
