Steve Arnette Robinson, born on October 29, 1957, is a well-known American former college basketball coach. He recently worked as an assistant coach for the men's basketball team at the University of Arizona. Before that, Robinson was the main coach for men's basketball at the University of Tulsa from 1995 to 1997. He also coached at Florida State University from 1997 to 2002.

Robinson spent 26 years as an assistant coach for Roy Williams. This included two times at the University of Kansas (1988–1995 and 2002–2003). He then moved with Williams to the University of North Carolina in 2003. As an assistant coach for the North Carolina Tar Heels, Robinson helped the team win three NCAA Division I tournament championships. These wins happened in 2005, 2009, and 2017.

As a head coach, Robinson led his teams to the NCAA tournament three times. He went twice with Tulsa and once with Florida State. In 1997, he was honored as the WAC Mountain Division Coach of the Year.

Early Life and Family

Steve Robinson grew up in Roanoke, Virginia. He went to William Fleming High School there. He earned his first college degree in health and physical science from Radford University in 1981. Later, in 1985, he earned a master's degree in counseling from the same university.

Robinson is married to Lisa, and they have four children together. Their daughters are Shauna and Kiaya. Their sons are Tarron and Denzel. Interestingly, Denzel played basketball for the Tar Heels for two seasons.

Coaching Career Highlights

Steve Robinson had a long and successful career in college basketball. He started as an assistant coach at Radford and Cornell. Then, he joined the Kansas Jayhawks as an assistant.

Head Coaching Roles

Robinson became a head coach for the first time at the University of Tulsa. He coached there for two seasons, from 1995 to 1997. During his time at Tulsa, his teams had a strong record of 46 wins and 18 losses. They even won the MVC tournament in 1996.

After Tulsa, he became the head coach at Florida State University. He coached the Seminoles from 1997 to 2002. His overall record as a head coach was 110 wins and 104 losses.

Assistant Coach Success

Robinson returned to being an assistant coach, first at Kansas again, and then for many years at the University of North Carolina. He was a key part of the coaching staff that led North Carolina to win three national championships. His last coaching role was as an assistant at the University of Arizona.
