Steven John Wilkos (born March 9, 1964) is an American television personality. He used to be a police officer with the Chicago Police Department. Since 2007, he has hosted The Steve Wilkos Show. Before that, from 1994 to 2007, he was the security director for Jerry Springer. He even filled in as host for Jerry Springer many times before getting his own show.

Steve Wilkos's Early Life and Education

Wilkos was born in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a neighborhood called Roscoe Village. He is the third of four children in his family. His mother, Jeanette, taught at a beauty school. His father, Stanley Wilkos, was a police officer. Steve graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1982.

In October 1982, Steve Wilkos joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in different places like South Korea, Japan, and various states in the U.S. He left the Marines in March 1989.

Working for the Chicago Police Department

Wilkos joined the Chicago Police Department in 1990. He worked as a police officer in several Chicago neighborhoods. These included Logan Square and Humboldt Park.

His Time on Jerry Springer

In May 1994, the TV show Jerry Springer needed security guards. The show was filmed in Chicago at the time. They decided to hire Wilkos and other police officers who were not on duty. Wilkos helped find other officers for the job. He stopped being a police officer in 2002. From 2001, he worked only for the Jerry Springer show.

Wilkos also appeared on other TV shows. He was a guest on a restaurant review program called Check, Please!. In 2006, when Jerry Springer was on Dancing with the Stars, Wilkos filled in as host. Springer thought Wilkos was the best person to take his place. Wilkos also had small roles on other TV series. He even appeared in the movie Austin Powers: The Spy Who ... Me as a security guard.

Steve Wilkos's Personal Life

Steve Wilkos married Rachelle Consiglio in 2000. Rachelle was an important producer for both Jerry Springer and The Steve Wilkos Show. They have two children together. The family used to live in Park Ridge, Illinois. In 2009, they moved to Darien, Connecticut. This was because The Steve Wilkos Show moved its filming location to Stamford, Connecticut. Wilkos also has a summer house in Camp Lake, Wisconsin.
