Stewart Dickson, born on December 8, 1950, is a politician from Northern Ireland. He is a member of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. Since 2011, he has been a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for the area of East Antrim.

Stewart Dickson's Political Journey
Serving as a Local Councillor
Stewart Dickson first became involved in politics in 1977. He was elected to the Carrickfergus Borough Council, which is a local government body. He represented an area known as Area A. He lost his seat in the 1981 local elections but was re-elected in 1985. After that, he was re-elected in every local election until 2011. During his time as a councillor, he also served as the Mayor of Carrickfergus from 1992 to 1993.
Becoming a Member of the Assembly
Stewart Dickson tried to become a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) several times. He ran as a candidate for the Alliance Party in East Antrim from 1996 until 2007. He finally won a seat in the 2011 Assembly Elections. He took over the seat from Seán Neeson, who was retiring.
He was re-elected as an MLA in the 2016 and 2017 Assembly Elections. Most recently, he was elected again in the 2022 Assembly Elections. In 2022, his fellow party member, Danny Donnelly, also won a seat in East Antrim.
Stewart Dickson's Life Outside Politics
Stewart Dickson is a trustee for a charity called OG Cancer NI. This charity helps people affected by oesophageal cancer. He became involved after he was diagnosed with this type of cancer in 2019 and had surgery.
Before becoming an MLA, he worked as an Arbitration Secretary at the Northern Ireland Labour Relations Agency. This agency helps solve disagreements between workers and employers. Stewart is also a retired member of the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance, which is a trade union. He and his wife, Sandra, are Elders at the Greenisland Presbyterian Church. He also spent many years as a member and Chair of the Boards of Governors for Carrickfergus Central and Silverstream Primary Schools.
In 1999, Stewart was a Winston Churchill Fellow. This fellowship allowed him to travel to the United States. He studied how to create and keep small businesses successful.
