Stijn Coninx (born on February 21, 1957) is a famous film director from Belgium. He is known for making many popular movies.

Stijn Coninx's Journey in Film

Stijn Coninx studied how to direct films at a school called HRITCS. This school is now known as Ritcs, part of Erasmus Hogeschool Brussel. He made his first movie in 1987. It was a comedy called Hector. This film became the most successful movie in Belgium for several years!

Directing Award-Winning Films

Stijn Coninx is most famous for his movie Daens. This film was so good that it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1992. An Academy Award, also known as an Oscar, is one of the highest honors a movie can receive. In 1993, King Baudouin of Belgium gave Stijn Coninx the special title of Baron. This is a high honor, like being made a knight.

Coninx also directed two well-liked films about real Belgian artists. One was Sister Smile, which told the story of a singing nun. The other was Marina, about the life of musician Rocco Granata.
