What is the Still River Greenway?

The Still River Greenway is a paved path that is about 2.25 miles long. It's designed for people to enjoy the outdoors. You can find entrances to the trail on Silvermine Road and Federal Road. As you travel along the greenway, you'll go under Route 7. You'll also cross over the Still River on a special bridge. This bridge is actually the longest footbridge in Connecticut!

Connecting to Downtown Brookfield

Near the Federal Road entrance, the greenway connects directly to the sidewalk in Brookfield Center. This makes it super easy to walk or bike from the trail right into the downtown area of Brookfield. It's a great way to explore the town after enjoying the greenway.

Exploring the Woods Loop

Another part of the trail starts near the Arthur A. Harris Linear Park. This section runs next to the Still River for a bit, offering nice views of the water. Then, it loops around into the woods, giving you a chance to see nature up close.

How did the Still River Greenway begin?

The idea for a greenway in Brookfield first came up in the year 2000. The town asked its residents what they needed, and a greenway was a popular idea. Building the trail started in 2011. The first part of the trail, near the Silvermine Road entrance, was finished in 2012. The rest of the trail was completed in 2016. Many people were excited about the greenway, and it was expected that 20,000 to 30,000 people would use it in its first year!
