Stockholm is a small community in New Jersey, United States. It is located in the southeastern part of Hardyston Township within Sussex County. Stockholm is called an "unincorporated community" because it does not have its own separate local government like a city or town.
The area is known for its many beautiful lakes. These include Deer Trail Lakes, Lake Stockholm, Lake Gerard, Beaver Lake, Lake Tamarack, and Summit Lake. The community's ZIP Code is 07460.
Long ago, in colonial times, Stockholm was known as "Snufftown." People from other areas would travel to Snufftown to buy drinks. Later, a train company called the New Jersey Midland Railway built a station here and named it "Stockholm." This new name replaced "Snufftown." Even though it's called Stockholm, there is no proof that the area was settled by people from Sweden.
In 2010, about 3,457 people lived in the area covered by the 07460 ZIP Code.
Understanding Stockholm's Weather
Stockholm experiences a type of weather called a humid continental climate. This means the area has big changes in temperature throughout the year. Summers are usually warm to hot, and can be humid. Winters are cold, and sometimes very cold.

The Stockholm Fire Department helps keep the community safe. It is also known as the Hardyston Fire Department Company 1. This fire department was started in 1955 and is located on Colson Terrace.
