The Stockport Armoury is a special military building located in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. It's a place where soldiers have trained and prepared for many years. This building is also a Grade II listed building, which means it's an important historical building that needs to be protected.

A Look Back: The Armoury's Story
The Stockport Armoury was built in 1862. It was designed by an architect named Henry Bowman. The building was first used as a training center for local volunteer soldiers. These volunteers were part of a group called the Cheshire Rifle Volunteer Corps.
Serving in World War I
Over the years, the groups training at the Armoury changed their names. By 1908, the main group was the 6th Battalion, The Cheshire Regiment. When World War I started in August 1914, these soldiers were called into action. They left the Armoury to fight on the Western Front, which was a major battle area in Europe. After the war ended, this group was no longer needed and was disbanded in 1920.
Changes After the Wars
After World War I, new military groups started using the Armoury. One of these was an artillery unit, which uses large guns. This unit was later renamed the 60th (6th Cheshire and Shropshire) Medium Brigade.
In the late 1930s, the unit at the Armoury changed again. It became the 81st Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment. This group was very important during World War II. They helped defend places like Orkney and Shetland in the UK, and also served in the Middle East. They even helped protect cities during the air raids known as The Blitz.
After World War II, the unit changed names one more time. But in 1955, it joined with other regiments in Manchester.
The Armoury Today
The Stockport Armoury continued to be an important training place for soldiers. In 1967, a new company of volunteers, called "A" Company, the Mercian Volunteers, was formed there. This group also changed names several times over the years.
Today, the Stockport Armoury is still an active Army Reserve Centre. This means it's a place where part-time soldiers train and prepare to help their country if needed. It continues its long history of supporting the military.
