Stone Creek is a small tributary (a smaller stream that flows into a larger one) of Holland Brook in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, in the United States.

Stone Creek is located in the western part of Readington Township, close to Cushetunk Mountain. It flows into Holland Brook on the left side if you are looking downstream. This creek is the first smaller stream that joins Holland Brook in this area. You can find where it meets Holland Brook at 40°35′23″N 74°48′09″W / 40.589743°N 74.802604°W / 40.589743; -74.802604.

Why Is It Called Stone Creek?

The name "Stone Creek" comes from the bottom of the creek itself! It has many stones and rocks because of its closeness to Mount Cushetunk. These rocks give the creek its name. There's even a road nearby called Stony Creek Lane, which is named after this waterway.

What Kind of Water Is It?

The NJDEP (New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection) has a special way of classifying water bodies. Stone Creek is classified as "FW2-NT." This means it's a freshwater stream (FW2) that is generally not suitable for trout (NT). Trout are fish that need very cold, clear water to live and reproduce. This classification helps scientists understand the water quality and what kinds of plants and animals can thrive there.
