History

The story of Stony Point began a long time ago. A post office was first set up here on February 17, 1826. It was in Iredell County back then. James Thompson was the first person in charge of the mail.

The name of the post office was officially changed to Stony Point in 1832. When Alexander County was created in 1847, the community of Stony Point ended up being in both counties.

Geography

Stony Point covers a total area of about 7.7 square kilometers (or 2.99 square miles). Most of this area is land. Only a very small part, about 0.02 square kilometers (or 0.01 square miles), is water.
