The Stopanska rijeka is a small river in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It's also known as Stopanski or Stopanski potok. This river flows into the Vrbanja river. You can find it near Kotor-Varoš and the village of Šiprage.
The Stopanska rijeka starts high up in the mountains. It begins near the village of Stopan, from a stream called Subanj and the Pecan spring. It's about 1,000 meters (or 3,280 feet) above sea level!
River's Journey
At its beginning, the river has a different name: Burča. It gets this name from a village nearby. The Burča river flows from the northeast towards the southwest.
Later, it becomes known as the Stopanska rijeka. It then changes direction, flowing northwest. Finally, it turns southwest again and joins the Vrbanja river. This happens near Todorovici village, at about 460 meters (1,500 feet) above sea level.
Past Uses
A long time ago, the Stopanska rijeka was very important to the local people. Until the 1960s, there were 12 watermills working on this river. These mills used the river's power to grind grain.
