Straight facts for kids
Not to be confused with Strait, a body of water.
The word straight describes something that goes in one direction without any turns, bends, or curves. Think of a ruler or a perfectly flat road – they are straight!
For example, a line can be straight or it can bend into a curve. If a line doesn't bend at all, it's a straight line. The edge of a circle, however, is not straight because it always bends in a curve.
Light usually travels in a straight line. When light moves through air or water, it can sometimes appear to bend. But in outer space, where there is no air, light travels in a perfectly straight path away from the earth or other planets.
