Strenči is a small town in Latvia. It is located in the Vidzeme region, which is in the northeast part of the country. Strenči is about 130 kilometers (80 miles) northeast of Riga, the capital city of Latvia.
This town is special because of its location on the Gauja river. For a long time, Strenči was known as the capital for raftsmen. These were people who floated logs down the river. Strenči is also famous for its special hospital, the "Strenču psihoneiroloģiskā slimnīca, VSIA". This hospital was built in 1907 to help people with mental health needs.
Strenči is also next to the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve. This is a protected area where nature is kept safe.
