Early Life and Golf Beginnings

Stuart Appleby became a professional golfer in 1992. He started his career on the PGA Tour of Australasia. In 1995, he won two events on the Nike Tour, which is now called the Web.com Tour. This tour is the second-highest level for men's golf in the U.S. He was one of the first players to win his very first Web.com Tour event.

By finishing fifth on the money list that season, he earned a spot to play on the PGA Tour the next year. Stuart Appleby has won nine times on the PGA Tour. He was also part of the International Team for the Presidents Cup five times. In 2004, he was ranked among the top ten golfers in the world.

Major Championship Highlights

Stuart Appleby's best performance in a major golf tournament was in 2002. He finished tied for second place at The Open Championship after a four-way playoff. He played against Ernie Els, who eventually won.

In 2010, Stuart Appleby made history at the first Greenbrier Classic tournament. He shot a score of 59 in the final round, becoming only the fifth player ever to do so in a PGA Tour event. That same year, he received the PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year award.

Recent Years in Golf

In 2015, Stuart Appleby had back surgery in March, which limited his playing time. He played in a Web.com Tour event for the first time in 20 years. He tried to get his PGA Tour card back through the Web.com Tour Finals. However, a hurricane caused the final tournament to be canceled. This meant he finished just outside the top 25 players who earned their cards. He continued to play with limited status in 2016 and 2017. Since then, he has played on the PGA Tour Champions.

Stuart Appleby's Personal Life

Stuart Appleby's first wife, Renay, passed away in 1998. In 2002, he married his second wife, Ashley Saleet. They live in Orlando, Florida, with their four children.

After his friend and neighbor, Payne Stewart, passed away in a plane crash in 1999, Stuart Appleby became a supportive figure for Stewart's children. When he's not playing golf, Stuart enjoys motor racing. He also supports golf in Australia as an ambassador for the Crown Lager Social Golf Club and a patron for Stuart Appleby Junior Golf.
