Early Golf Days
Becoming an Amateur Star
Before turning professional, Stuart was a very good amateur golfer. In 1992, he won the English Amateur tournament. He also won the Lytham Trophy that same year. These wins showed he was a rising talent in golf.
Playing for His Country
Stuart Cage also represented Great Britain & Ireland. He played in the 1993 Walker Cup, which is a big golf competition for amateur players. This was a major achievement for him.
Professional Golf Career
Starting as a Pro
Stuart Cage became a professional golfer in 1993. The next year, he did very well on the Challenge Tour. This is a golf tour just below the main European Tour. He finished 8th in the rankings, which helped him move up.
Playing on the European Tour
In 1995, Stuart joined the European Tour as a new player. He almost won the Irish Open in his first year. He lost in a sudden-death playoff to an experienced golfer named Sam Torrance.
Winning a Major Title
Two years later, in 1997, Stuart Cage won his biggest title. He won the Europe 1 Cannes Open, which was part of the European Tour. This was his only win on the main European Tour. After 1998, he faced more challenges in his game. He last played on the main European Tour in 2003.
