Stuart C. Conquest was born on March 1, 1967, in Ilford, England. He is a famous English Grandmaster in chess. Besides playing, he also works as a chess commentator and helps organize chess tournaments.

Stuart Conquest's Chess Journey

Stuart Conquest started his chess journey very early. When he was just 14 years old in 1981, he won the World Youth Chess Championship. This was for players under 16, showing his great talent from a young age.

He became the British Rapidplay Chess Champion in 1997. This type of chess game is played with less time for each move. Stuart also shared first place at the Hastings Premier tournament twice, in 1995 and 2000. In 2001, he won a big tournament in Clichy.

After a short break from winning, Stuart made a strong comeback in 2008. He won the British Chess Championship. He had to play a special tie-breaker match against Keith Arkell to win the title. In May 2009, he won another tournament called the Capo d'Orso Open.

Since the mid-1990s, Stuart has often played for the England team. He has represented his country in major events like the Olympiads and the European Team Chess Championships.

Chess Skills and Titles

Stuart Conquest has played in many international tournaments over the years. His highest Elo rating was 2601. An Elo rating is a number that shows how strong a chess player is. He reached this high rating in October 2001.

He earned the title of International Master in 1985. Later, in 1991, he achieved the highest title in chess, becoming a Grandmaster. These titles are given by FIDE, the world chess organization.

Stuart has also become well-known for his work outside of playing. He often comments on chess games, helping people understand what is happening. Since 2011, he has been the tournament director for the Gibraltar Chess Festival. This is a big annual chess event held in Catalan Bay.
