Stuart Macrae (born December 7, 1855 – died January 27, 1927) was an English footballer. He played as a half back, which is a defensive midfield position. Stuart Macrae was also an international player for the England squad.

Stuart Macrae's Football Career

Stuart Macrae played for several football clubs during his career. He started with Notts County. He then moved on to play for Newark Town. Stuart Macrae finished his football career playing for Corinthian.

Playing for England

Even though Stuart Macrae had Scottish family roots, he played for the England national team. His father was a Scottish clan leader who worked as an army surgeon in India, which is where Stuart was born. At that time, if you were born in a British territory overseas, you could play for England. Stuart was also living in Nottinghamshire because he worked at a brewing company there. He played in five international matches for England between 1883 and 1884.

Stuart Macrae was very active in amateur sports even after his football career. He loved many different kinds of sports. He was the very first president and captain of the Newark Golf Club. He held these important roles until he passed away in 1927.

Stuart Macrae had a younger brother named John MacRae-Gilstrap. John is famous for helping to rebuild the historic Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland.
