Studio 58 is a special school in Vancouver, British Columbia, where students learn to become professional actors or work behind the scenes in theatre. It's part of Langara College. This school is known as one of the best theatre schools in Canada. It's the only school in Western Canada that offers this kind of hands-on, intensive theatre training.
The school has two main programs, both lasting three years. One program is for students who want to be actors. The other program is for students who want to work in theatre production. This means they learn about things like lighting, sound, costumes, and set design.
Studio 58 holds auditions for hundreds of people from all over Canada. But only sixteen new students are accepted each semester. There are two times a year when new students can start: in the fall and in the spring.
The school has its own small theatre. Each year, they put on four big plays for the public. They also have a smaller show called Risky Nights. For these shows, professional directors and designers are hired to work with the students. Sometimes, guest performers also join in. The plays at Studio 58 are open to everyone and are often reviewed by local news in Vancouver.

Discovering Studio 58's History
How the School Started
Studio 58 began in 1965. It started as a small course about theatre arts. This course was first held at the King Edward Campus of Vancouver City College. Today, that college is called Vancouver Community College.
A person named Antony Holland led this first theatre course. Under his guidance, the course grew bigger and became a full program.
Moving to a New Home
In 1970, the theatre program moved to a new building. This new home was on the Langara Campus. When it moved, the program got a new name: Studio 58. It was named after the room number where the first theatre space was located.
New Leadership at Studio 58
In 1985, Antony Holland stepped down from his role. He was the Artistic Director, which is like the main leader of the school. Kathryn Shaw then took over this important job. She led Studio 58 until she retired in 2020.
Now, the school is led by Courtenay Dobbie. She is the current Artistic Director.
Celebrating 50 Years
