Sublette is a city in Haskell County, Kansas, United States. It is also the main town, or county seat, of Haskell County. In 2022, about 1,333 people lived there.

History

Sublette was started in 1912. It was named after a famous explorer and fur trapper named William Lewis Sublette. He was known for exploring new paths through the wilderness.

The first post office in Sublette opened in January 1913. Around that time, about 270 people lived in the town. Sublette actually grew from an older town called Santa Fe. People from Santa Fe wanted to live closer to a railroad, so they moved and started the settlement of Sublette.

Geography

Sublette is located in Kansas at 37°28′47″N 100°50′42″W / 37.47972°N 100.84500°W / 37.47972; -100.84500. The city covers an area of about 0.92 square miles (2.38 square kilometers), and all of it is land.

Climate

Sublette has a semi-arid climate. This means it's usually dry, but not a desert. It gets some rain, but not a lot.
