Succisa pratensis, commonly called devil's-bit scabious or simply devil's-bit, is a lovely purple wildflower. It belongs to the honeysuckle family, known scientifically as Caprifoliaceae. In earlier times, scientists grouped it within the teasel family, called Dipsacaceae.
This tough plant grows widely across Europe and parts of Asia. You can find it blooming in damp meadows, open heaths, and grassy hillsides. It thrives in wild places with low levels of nutrients in the soil.
